2024 Categories & Criteria


Risk Professional of the Year

Open to women working in a risk management, risk assessment or risk mitigation role the UK, whether for a business, public sector body, broker, insurer, captive, consultancy or service provider where the focus is on insurable risks.


Claims Professional of the Year
Open to women working in a claims role in the UK general insurance industry. This includes, but is not limited to, loss adjusters, specialist service providers, contractors, lawyers, brokers and insurers.


London Market Professional of the Year
Open to women working in any professional, operational or management capacity in the London insurance market. This includes, but is not limited to, brokers, insurers, MGAs, adjusters and other service providers focussed on the London Market.


MGA Professional of the Year
Open to women working in any professional, operational or management capacity in a managing general agent authorised to do business in the UK. The nominee must be based in the UK.


Underwriting Professional of the Year
Open to women working in an underwriting role in the UK general insurance industry whether for an insurer, reinsurer, MGA, captive or other risk carrier.


Actuary of the Year

Open to women who are qualified actuaries working in an actuarial, risk pricing or similar role in the UK general insurance industry whether for a risk carrier or independent actuarial practice.


Insurance Broker of the Year
Open to women working for a UK authorised broker whose main business is general insurance.


Insurance Lawyer of the Year

Open to women working for any UK-based law firm that offers services to the general insurance market


Digital Champion of the Year
Open to women working in any capacity in the UK general insurance market who have driven, inspired or delivered genuine digital innovation.


Insurance Woman of the Year (small to medium firms)
Open to women whose overall achievements and work within the UK general insurance industry has helped raise the profile of the sector as a career for women through their commitment to education, training, leadership, mentoring or acting as a role model. The award is not specific to any particular role but the nominee must be able to demonstrate their influence in attracting and/or retaining women into the sector. Open to women working for firms with fewer than 500 employees.


Insurance Woman of the Year (large firms)
Open to women whose overall achievements and work within the UK general insurance industry has helped raise the profile of the sector as a career for women through their commitment to education, training, leadership, mentoring or acting as a role model. The award is not specific to any particular role, but the nominee must be able to demonstrate their influence in attracting and/or retaining women into the sector. Open to women working for firms with more than 500 employees.


Young Insurance Woman of the Year Award (small to medium firms)
Open to women in the UK general insurance sector who are under 30 and have impressed colleagues with their desire to succeed and strive to achieve excellence in the workplace. Nominees must be 30 years of age or under on 1st October 2024. Open to women working for firms with fewer than 500 employees.


Young Insurance Woman of the Year Award (large firms)
Open to women in the UK general insurance sector who are under 30 and have impressed colleagues with their desire to succeed and strive to achieve excellence in the workplace. Nominees must be 30 years of age or under on 1st October 2024. Open to women working for firms with more than 500 employees.


Mentor of the Year
Open to all genders in the UK general insurance sector who have supported and encouraged women to fulfil their potential within the workplace.


Team Leader of the Year - Insurer/MGA
Team Leader of the Year - Broker
Team Leader of the Year - Service Provider

Open to women in the UK general insurance sector who head up a team and can demonstrate excellence in leadership, communication and vision. . Due to the high number of entries, there are three separate categories.


Most Inspiring Returner
For women who have returned to work in the last two years in the UK general insurance sector following maternity leave or other career break and have acted as a role model to women looking to achieve the balance between work and family life


Rising Star Award
Open to women in the UK general insurance sector who have made a strong impact in a short space or time and are most likely to progress further. There is no age limit and candidates can be graduates, non-graduates, trainees or managers. Nominees must be working for less than three years in the sector on 1st October 2024.


Unsung Hero Award - Insurer/MGA
Unsung Hero Award - Broker
Unsung Hero Award - Service Provider
This category is open to women, especially those in back office and non-consumer facing roles, who have gone above and beyond to contribute to their business, support a team or encourage diversity in the workplace. Due to the high number of entries there are three separate Unsung Hero categories. The service provider award embraces any firm – loss adjuster, lawyers, tech firms or consultancy that serves the general insurance market.


Role Model of the Year - Insurer/MGA
Role Model of the Year - Broker
Role Model of the Year - Service Provider

Open to women in the UK general insurance sector who have helped inspire others to fulfil their potential and achieve excellence in the workplace. Due to the high number of entries there are three separate Unsung Hero categories. The service provider award embraces any firm – loss adjuster, lawyers, tech firms or consultancy that serves the general insurance market.


Marketer of the Year

Open to women working for any firm in the UK general insurance sector, or which serves the sector, who have made a significant contribution in a marketing or communications role.


Trailblazer Award
Open to women in any role in the UK general insurance sector who have made a valuable business contribution by pioneering or driving through change that has inspired other women. This could be related to a project, product, task or process. The nominee must have a lead or key role in either identifying and defining a challenge and/or delivering a change/diversity project focussed on opportunities or support for women.


Contribution to Gender Inclusion Award - corporate award

Open to companies and organisations in the general insurance sector that have implemented a project, initiative or wider changes in gender inclusion within a business or the industry more broadly. 


Contribution to Inclusion Award - corporate award

Open to companies and organisations in the general insurance sector that have implemented a project, initiative or wider changes promoting inclusion and diversity impacting a range of disadvantaged, excluded or marginalised groups or people vulnerable to prejudice, within a business or the industry more broadly.


Outstanding Achievement Award
In recognition of a woman who has risen to the top of the career ladder and is an inspiration to future female leaders. This award will be decided by the panel.


Gender Inclusion Network of the Year 

Open to any network with the promotion of gender inclusion in the general insurance market as one of its principal aims. The network could be an internal single-company network or an external group. It could be a group with a rolling programme of activities, events and objectives, or a group focussed on a specific project.
